To obtain a Virginia real estate appraisal license, you may now take online real estate appraisal license courses - Virginia approved. Do I take the 75 hour course or the 90 hour course?   You need 90 hours to sit for the exam, so take 90 to start with.  The 75 hour course is available for those who want to add a 15 hour course at a later time. The courses may be taken online or by CD.

About the Virginia pre-license appraisal courses: There are different levels of getting a Virginia appraisal license.
Appraiser Trainee - No experience required. Requires 75 hour pre-license course followed by application. The course includes 60 hours for the pre-license course plus 15 hours for the required USPAP* course. There is a supervised course exam, but no state exam is required.  An appraiser trainee is qualified to work under the supervision of a licensed appraiser of your choice. 75 Hour pre-license course - online or CD format
Licensed Real Property Appraiser Requires 2,000 hours experience, 90 hour course and passing the state exam. The course includes 75 hours for the pre-license course plus 15 hours for the required USPAP* course.  Fastest way to get your license if you are already have or are obtaining the experience requirement. 90 hour pre-license course - online or CD format
* The USPAP course is intended to fulfill the 15-hour requirement as established by the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) of The Appraisal Foundation. This is a national required course set as a minimum for all states. The Appraiser Foundation website states: "Effective January 1, 2008, the requirements an individual must meet in order to become a state licensed or certified real property appraiser will significantly increase. Whether you are someone considering becoming an appraiser, an appraiser seeking a different state credential, a provider of appraisal education, or a state appraiser regulator, these changes will impact you."

The above courses are approved by the Virginia Real Estate Appraisal Board.
